Semnopithecus is the genus of all hanuman or gray langurs that can be found throughout South Asia, particularly in India and the Himalayan regions. I first encountered these old world monkeys on a trip to the mountainous area of Mussorrie during my 2015 artist residency in India. The charcoal wood found in the local markets reminded me of the elegant hands of the langurs.
