EROs is ceramic sculpture integrating the form of the skull and the gas ventilator. The Greek etymology of the word ‘eros’ - the sum of life-preserving instincts that are manifested as impulses to gratify basic needs, also forms the acryonym for Emergency Regulations Ordinance - the colonial law resurrected by the Hong Kong authorities in 2019 that bans the wearing of masks in protests. Within a few months, the wearing of masks was ubiquitious as the full weight of Covid19 fell upon the world.
Developed orignally for my solo exhibition, We No Longer See the Stars at de Sarthe Gallery in Hong Kong. Available for private view at the gallery but not exhibited as a part of the exhibition.
