On pages 68-69:

"In some cases, the use of the ephemeral has a strong political dimension. In the 2008 Singapore Biennale, the widely exhibited Richard Streitmatter-Tran (b. 1972) in tandem with his wife, Chaw Ei Thein (b. 1969, Burma), and a number of volunteers, exhibited a work entitled "September Sweetness [65]. Constructed from a photography of a decaying Buddhist temple in Burma and made from five and half tons of sugar that slowly eroded during the life of the exhibition, the project was conceived to conincide with the first anniversary of the Buddhist demonstration in Burma which was violently put down by the military junta. Despite international concern, Singapore as the chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations did not intervene to help, and thus the eroding  work tacitly offered a commentary on the complex interrelationships in Southeast Asia as well as the long state of decay suffered in Burma itself."
